Sunday Recap - Black Honey, Errands, and Sunburns

Tim and I spend a lot of time together, but I really value our Sundays most. It feels like every other day of the week, we always make plans. Sunday is the day we are more likely to relax.

This Sunday we got up decently early and went to try the brunch at Black Honey. We usually go for breakfast at The Only, which is always delicious but takes FOREVER to get your food. Black Honey has delicious desserts and we've always talked about checking out their Sunday brunch.

On a nice day, I'd absolutely recommend the patio at the back. As yesterday was absolutely gorgeous, we sat out there and it was lovely. They've done a really good job with that back area - Gerti's, Black Honey, and Gabby's all have patios and the interlocking area is really nicely done with gardens and at least a dozen flowering trees.

Tim working his shiny, shiny pate. A woman at the table next to us had to offer him sunscreen - she was worried about a burn dimming his lustrous glow. Amazingly, he actually accepted and applied.

Tim's breakfast - poached eggs and smoked trout in a crepe with hollandaise and caviar with roasted potatoes and a salad. The salad was underdressed and there were maybe five caviar eggs on top of the crepes, but Tim seemed to enjoy it.

My breakfast - the Weekender, a mix of fresh fruit, a bagel, poached eggs, brie, and honey ham. The fruit was good, the poached egg/brie/ham mix on the bagel was really good. Only problem - one BIG bagel, two BIG poached eggs, four pieces of brie, two teeny-tiny pieces of overcooked ham. Great concept, not executed as well as it could be. Still pretty good.

Black Honey is definitely a good place to go if you're wanting a fairly healthy brunch option. The portion sizes were small-to-reasonable (Tim was still hungry after his) and the flavours were good. I feel like this is a place where they over-promise and under-deliver, though. I also wasn't overly impressed with the service - the waitress brought me the wrong drink, and when I pointed it out, she didn't offer the orange juice on the house. We paid for both, even though it was her mistake. Not a big deal, but not what I expected. Tim also remarked that the coffee tasted a bit watered down. He very obviously prefers Nata's

After breakfast we got groceries and headed over to Tim's parent's house for a little bit. Mostly we spent time admiring the beautiful progress they're making on their backyard. They bought a new patio set at Costco that is really nice - and very large. They are also putting in a fire pit area, as well. I predict we'll be spending quite a few summer nights hanging out there!

Jack-Jack!! (And Dean)

Jackie got all excited when Wendy used the magic W-A-L-K word to try to get her attention for a picture. It worked too well.

After visiting with Tim's parents for a bit we headed out to Dawn and Mark's place just south of Bailieboro. They have a lovely custom home on top of a hill with an insane view. Dawn is leaving in a few weeks to go to London to work as part of the Olympics. I believe her position is something along the lines of athletics coordinator. It's an incredible opportunity and Tim is super proud of her. He's really going to miss her company canoeing this summer, though! He also tried to sweet-talk them into giving him a discount on the kayak they're selling. No dice.

Tim modeling Mark's gardening hat to try to keep his delicate head protected.

The view from Dawn and Mark's deck.

A killdeer nest by the side of the driveway at Dawn and Mark's! The mother even did a great wounded wing/playing dead act when we stopped to check it out.

All in all, great Sunday!
